The National Association for Loss and Grief is pleased to announce that in 2008 LaTrobe University is offering a range of post graduate courses in loss, grief and end of life care from various locations across Victoria with some courses being available through distance education.

Provided that the relevant units are undertaken, the courses meet NALAG's loss and grief theory requirements for a loss and grief counsellor or educator accreditation.

The availability of these units and courses provide an opportunity for people in the allied health sector to undertake loss and grief education at a variety of levels that have university standing. The availability of these units and courses also provides an opportunity to strengthen Victoria 's loss and grief workforce. The specific post graduate courses include:

6 required 20 point units

Dedicated counselling course leading to PACFA accreditation

 

Masters

Master PPD

4 elective units in addition to Grad Cert PPD Grad Cert HHC, or Grad Cert HPPC

Focus on loss, grief and end-of-life care.

Master Public Health

8 units in addition to postgraduate diploma PH, including 1 required unit, 4 electives and 3 units of project OR 5 required units, 2 project units, and up to 5 electives

Allows designated specialist stream using electives + project

Master Health Science

2 core units, 2 elective units, 4 units of thesis

Research degree allowing major focus on loss, grief and end-of-life care

Please note: successful completion of the courses below can be counted towards professional accreditation with NALAG VIC. However no course listed below meets the full accreditation requirements.

Single Courses - Minimum 80 hours

• Bereavement Counselling Methods Course- Australian Centre for Grief & Bereavement

•  Certificate in Loss, Grief & Bereavement Counselling - Gippsland Centre for Loss, Grief & Bereavement

Combined Courses - Must total a minimum of 80 hours

•  Specialist Course in Bereavement Counselling - Australian Centre for Grief & Bereavement

•  Grief & Palliative Care Counselling Program Levels 1 & 11 - Department of General Practice - Adelaide University

•  Core Course in Bereavement Counselling - Bereavement Care Centre

•  Children and Grief- Bereavement Care Centre

Loss and Grief Counselling Practice - Must total a minimum of 80 hours
